YHI & Kaizen

YHI as an organisation has strong core values and ethics. We adopt the practise of ‘Kaizen’ which is a Japanese business philosophy of continuous improvement of working practises – in a nutshell we work to continuously adapt and improve ourselves and our products – be it through manufacturing or operational processes. Kaizen and 5S have been an important practise in our daily operation since the YHI Group first adopted the system in 2011.

About Kaizen

Kaizen is a system of continuous improvement in quality, technology, processes, company culture, productivity, safety and leadership. Kaizen was created in Japan following World War 2 and came from the Japanese words ‘Kai’ which means ‘change’ or ‘to correct’ and ‘zen’ which means ‘good’.

Every employee participates in Kaizen and 5S  - from upper management to junior members of staff.  Kaizen involves setting standards and continually improving on those standards. Staff are encouraged to come up with small improvement suggestions on a regular basis. These continual small improvements add up over time to major benefits. The results of practising Kaizen have included improved quality, efficiency, staff skill and productivity and reduced costs and waste.



About 5S

5S stands for 5 Japanese words Seiri (sorting), Seiton (arranging), Seiso (cleaning), Seketsu (maintaining) and Shitsuke (self-discipline). All staff are responsible for arranging their work areas and maintaining a high level of organisation and tidiness. We hold regular internal audits on our Kaizen and 5S practises to ensure a high standard is maintained.
